Exhibition “El Grito” (The Cry for Independence)

The UALR Gallery Program will present El Grito (The cry for Independence). El Grito, the exhibition will feature contemporary artists with ties to the Mexican-American experience. Many of the artists featured deal with issues of identity in a social-political context. Immigration has become a poignant issue that often evokes a polemic discourse. Artists are not shying away from this conversation and the artworks being created deal with notions of borders and boundaries.
Student Tours – Up to 40 students per tour.

Each artist revels in chosen material: paints for Copeland and wood for Sparling
Historic Arkansas Museum’s Trinity Gallery for Arkansas Artists is proud to present Aspects of Abstraction: Donnie Copeland and Gene Sparling, on display today through October 31, 2010.
Arkadelphia artist Donnie Copeland combines painting in a way that places a greater emphasis on the “stuff” of which paintings are made. His work combines both the enjoyment of the material of painting and the process of painting. The works are an interplay of the artist’s response to reality and realism.
Gene Sparling’s sculpture draws upon the warmth and beauty of wood. Each piece of wood contains layer upon layer of intricate design. With every cut and shaving he makes, from every angle and contour, Sparling reveals another view. Sparling lives in the Ouachita Mountains near Hot Springs.
Historic Arkansas Museum is open 9am-5pm, Monday through Saturday and 1-5pm on Sunday. Admission to the galleries and parking are free; tours of historic grounds are $2.50 for adults, $1.00 for children under 18 and $1.50 for senior citizens.

Immensely popular with ordinary Argentineans (but equally despised by the middle class and powerful factions in the army and political circles), Eva Perón rose from obscurity to political power and was eventually considered the spiritual leader of the country.

Wildwood Park for the Arts
Wildwood Park for the Arts will have runners, children and dogs running wild in West Little Rock on October 9th with its inaugural 5K RunWILD. Race begins at 8 a.m., followed by live entertainment and hayrides to Pumpkin Hill's hay fort.
Kicking off the Park's fall festivities, Wildwood welcomes runners to a morning fun run beginning at the Promenade at Chenal and ending with a victory lap inside Wildwood Park. A shuttle will transport runners from the Park to the Promenade. Children and dogs, too, are welcome to participate in a 1K run through Wildwood's unique botanical gardens.
RunWILD will host an assortment of activities including entertainment by Radio Disney's Rockin' Road Show, with music, games, prizes and give a ways, free hayrides to Pumpkin Hill where a pumpkin patch, a free pumpkin for every child, and a hay fort designed by Amoz Eckerson of Jameson Architects awaits.
Registration fees for the 5K are $25 in advance, $30 the day of the race. Registration fees for the kid and dog 1K are $10 in advance, $15 the day of the race. Registration fees include a RunWILD 5K t-shirt and race packet. Chip timing is provided by Mac's Race Timing Service.

Harvest Festival brings Arkansas' 'pickin' and 'fiddlin' championship to Little Rock's unique botanical gardens at Wildwood Park for the Arts on October 16th, 10am to 6pm. Enjoy the glorious colors, traditions, foods, sounds and aromas of autumn in Arkansas with music from nationally acclaimed and Grammy nominated, Mountain Heart, along with regional and local artists, a 'pickin' and 'fiddlin' championship, hayrides, children's crafts and foods for purchase. Play the flat pick guitar, mandolin, banjo, the fiddle or in a band? Enter the 'pickin' and 'fiddlin' championship for a chance to win cash prizes. Grand prize band winner will be featured in Harvest Festival, 2011.
