"A Dark, Dark House"
The Weekend Theater, 7th and Chester
A Dark, Dark House, by Neil LaBute.
This absorbing puzzle play, concerning repressed memories of childhood sexual abuse and involving classically brutish brothers, takes place in a fancy institution for the dangerously self-medicated. A cruel father and a sexually predatory young man represent two dark forces. Their actions affected two brothers differently, but clearly left a dark, dark imprint on their psyches. Helping to understand the psyche of the American male, this provocative and sexualized mystery plumbs adolescence in American lives: how it can be warped, stolen, frozen and willfully extended. What went on in that “dark, dark house” shows the ripple and long-term effects of family dysfunction and violence, that shared trauma can poison kinship and ricochet down to subsequent generations? Directed by Duane Jackson.

The Loony Bin presents James Johann
Breckenridge Village Shopping Center
James Johann was born in the Midwest during the 70's era of bell-bottom jeans, wood paneled station wagons and disco music. His childhood upbringing was significantly influenced by country music, countless bad haircuts and heavy doses of Catholic school. In 1991, after being fired from several "McJobs", James began his standup career in Kansas City. But don't let James' boyish appearance fool you; he's a ten-year veteran of the stand-up comedy circuit. His self-deprecating sense of humor and high-energy style all come together to create a unique onstage persona. James relies more on his brain than the profane, and his comedy often hits upon the universal theme of failure, and provides a truthful and hilarious reflection of life as he sees it. On November 29th, Santa will serve as honorary duck master, escorting the world famous Peabody ducks from their palace to their water wonderland, where they swim from 11am-5pm. Arrive at 10:45 to hear the legend of the Peabody ducks and get a good spot to see their parade.
After the Santa-led duck march, The Peabody will hold a tree-lighting ceremony, officially marking the onset of the Christmas season. Your little ducklings can have a free photo taken with Santa, enjoy holiday cookies and see a special Peabody gingerbread village. Start your holiday season at The Peabody Little Rock.
