Fun for the Family: Enjoy a Kid-Friendly Spring Break in Little Rock
All right, we admit it. Little Rock doesn’t have sprawling beaches lined with palm trees, and we’re a ways from the ocean. But look no further for a great, family-friendly spring break destination.
We understand if a tropical getaway isn’t in the cards for you this year. That said, you can still enjoy an equally exciting spring break in Little Rock with attractions and activities that are active, affordable, and family friendly.
After all, who says you need a beach to have a good time? Here are some ideas for you (and the kids) to have a great spring break in Little Rock:
Enjoy and explore Little Rock’s expansive outdoors
Little Rock has no shortage of beautiful outdoor locations. First, there’s Riverfront Park, positioned perfectly along the banks of the Arkansas River in downtown Little Rock. From there, it’s an easy walk to explore all that the River Market District has to offer.
Or drive a short distance west to Pinnacle Mountain State Park. In 2023, the park unveiled a new visitors center, which features indoor and outdoor exhibits, a trail entrance and Loblolly ice cream as a concession. This park offers two trails up to the top of Pinnacle Mountain, which offers stunning views from the top. Our advice is to wear sturdy shoes, and pack water and a snack. It’s a strenuous but enjoyable hike. Take our word for it: Coming down is as much of a workout as going up.
Animal lover? Look no further than the Little Rock Zoo
A love for animals is something universal for most of us, whether we’re young, old, or somewhere in between. That’s why a trip to the Little Rock Zoo is a perfect experience for a beautiful spring day.
The Little Rock Zoo, Arkansas’s largest zoo, houses animals such as cheetahs, elephants, and penguins. On our last visit, we enjoyed seeing some super cute small apes. There is a wide range of impressive creatures to enjoy. No, you can’t take one home, but you can buy an adorable stuffed animal at the gift shop which is the next best thing.
Museums offer an education and insightful experience
Several Little Rock museums offer enjoyable experiences for adults and children alike. If you have young children, how about the Museum of Discovery in downtown Little Rock’s vibrant River Market District?
The Museum of Discovery caters to curious children, but we can assure you adults will enjoy themselves as well. Other museums to keep in mind are the Historic Arkansas Museum and the Old State House Museum. And if you’re traveling with a budding pint-sized politician, don’t forget about the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum.
Blast off with Arkansas’s space connections
If your little one is looking to the stars, be sure to take them to the Arkansas State Capitol to view “Astronomical Arkansas: Astronomy and Space Science in the Natural State.”
This temporary exhibit runs through May 5 and includes space shuttle components, moon rock samples, and other items highlighting Arkansas’s contributions to astronomy and space exploration.
It’s also a great week to shop for new clothes and more
Sometimes there’s just nothing better than a simple day of shopping, especially if a good meal is involved. Take a trip over to West Little Rock to enjoy a variety of exciting shopping destinations.
The whole family can find some fun merchandise at the Little Rock Outlets. Next to the outlets is Bass Pro Shops and several dining destinations. Click here for a list of stores and shops to enjoy on your trip to Little Rock. Enjoy, and treat yourself!
