How to Celebrate Juneteenth in Little Rock
Little Rock is a city with a storied history when it comes to race. Today, we’re proud of our strong Black culture. We invite you to join us in celebrating Juneteenth in the heart of Arkansas' capital city.
Juneteenth National Independence Day, a federal holiday in the United States, is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery. Little Rock, a city with a vibrant Black culture, is the perfect place to mark this important holiday, and our city has multiple Juneteenth events to choose from.
Mark your calendar for the 16th annual Juneteenth in Da Rock hosted by Mosaic Templars Cultural Center. This free, family-friendly event is held on historic West 9th Street, taking place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 21. The day begins with the annual Juneteenth in Da Rock 5K and wraps up with musical performances.
The 5K run (or walk) is an opportunity for participants to support the mission of the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center as well as see many of the city’s African American historic sites including Arkansas Baptist College, Little Rock Central High School, Philander Smith College, and Dreamland Ballroom.
Runners will also pass the home of Mifflin Gibbs, the first elected Black judge in the country and among other sites. The 5K starts at 7 a.m. Click here to register.
This day-long street festival is a vibrant cultural experience with activities, vendors, virtual programs, food, and entertainment suitable for all ages. With thousands of attendees expected from across the state and a diverse range of attractions including a kids' zone and education station, it's set to be a highlight of the Juneteenth celebration.
