How to Eat Your Way Through the Arkansas State Fair
This blog contains information from a previous year's event. Check back soon for more info on the 2024 Arkansas State Fair.
For ten fun-filled days, the Arkansas State Fair lights up Little Rock with a dazzling display of music and spectacle. From thrilling carnival rides to entertaining displays of art and livestock, the fair is something Arkansans look forward to all year long. Of course, there’s one thing the fair is known for above all else: the ever-changing menu of outlandish food on offer. We got to take a sneak peek at some of the treats at this year’s fair and here are some of our favorites.
The Dilly Dog
Our list kicks off with a doozy: the Dilly Dog. This is a hotdog stuffed inside a dill pickle and then deep-fried. Is it a little out there? Sure! But we’d expect nothing else from the Arkansas State Fair.
Crawfish Fried Pie
This one hits a little closer to home. It takes the concepts of the traditional sweet dessert and turns it savory with the addition of spicy crawfish. We’re big fans of this one.
Fried Lasagna
Every once in a while, a perfect food somehow gets better, and that’s exactly what’s happened here. Who doesn’t love a giant slice of ooey-gooey, cheesy lasagna? And then deep fry it? Sounds like a new classic to us!
Possum Pie
Arkansas doesn’t have an official state pie, but if it did, it would be Possum Pie. These creamy layers of cream cheese and chocolate have been an Arkansas staple for decades but the version at this year’s Arkansas State Fair will give grandma a run for her money! No possums were harmed during the making of this State Fair delicacy.
Funnel Cake Hamburger
Yes, really. Like peanut butter and jelly or Abbot and Costello, this is the dynamic duo of flavors that you never knew you were missing. Expect long lines for this one, but it’s worth the wait, we promise.
The Arkansas State Fair opens on Friday, October 11, ends on Sunday, October 20, and features 60 thrilling rides and nine nights of rocking concerts. Looking for a place to stay during your visit to the 83rd Arkansas State Fair? Click here to find the Little Rock hotel that’s right for you.
